#35 The Wytches - Weights and Ties

The Wytches new single 'Weights and Ties' is out today on Heavenly Recordings, and it's got us feeling all emotional.

Part of the reason that this had to be our last SOTW of 2014 is not just because it's The Wytches (and boy, do we love The Wytches), but because it's another hint (listen to 'Darker' here) at the band we believe they will become. Its pace shows maturity and lyrically it's actually quite beautiful. The slow, lazy chord changes and sweetness in the lead guitar melody make me feel proud. Proud of a band I love. Even in their most recent press images, they're staring you in the face; hiding behind hair and shy grins no longer.

The huge lack of adolescent rushing and fumbling makes 'Weights and Ties' powerful in a very different capacity to some of their other output. Perhaps, over the course of this incredibly year they have learnt as much about themselves as we have about them.
